FAQ

Design & Craftsmanship

Questions exploring the inspiration, proportions, craftsmanship and sculptural details behind the product.

What makes Chapiteau different from other designer engagement rings? +
Chapiteau approaches the engagement ring from a different direction. Rather than building the design around a traditional circular halo, it uses a striking hexagonal framework that surrounds the centre stone with a precise geometric form. The result is a ring that feels contemporary, elegant and instantly recognisable.
Why did Andrew choose a hexagon for the design? +
The honest answer is that Andrew simply loves the hexagon. Circular forms are common in jewellery, but the hexagon has a unique combination of strength, balance and beauty. It appears throughout nature and architecture, yet remains surprisingly uncommon in engagement ring design. Chapiteau began with the desire to explore that geometry and create a distinctive hexagonal engagement ring where a perfect hexagon of light surrounded the centre stone.
Why is the ring called Chapiteau? +
Chapiteau is an old French word associated with a place of spectacle and wonder. Andrew designed the ring during the period he was living in France and felt the name perfectly captured the design. The hexagonal structure creates a stage for light, colour and brilliance, turning the centre stone into the focal point of a carefully orchestrated spectacle.
Is Chapiteau a traditional or contemporary engagement ring? +
Chapiteau sits comfortably between the two. It retains the familiar structure of a centre stone surrounded by accent stones, but the hexagonal geometry gives it a more contemporary feel than many traditional engagement rings. The geometry becomes part of the design language rather than simply a frame around the centre stone. It appeals to clients looking for something distinctive without stepping too far away from classic design.
Who does Chapiteau suit? +
Chapiteau often appeals to people who appreciate design, architecture and geometry. It attracts clients who want a distinctive engagement ring with a strong identity, while still retaining elegance and wearability. Many are drawn to the clean lines, unusual silhouette and the way the design balances modernity with refinement.
Why does Chapiteau create such a distinctive display of light? +
The hexagonal structure creates a framework that contains and directs light differently to a traditional halo. The surrounding stones form a clear geometric shape that emphasises the centre stone while creating a larger overall display of brilliance. Depending on the version selected, the ring can appear to create a hexagon of diamonds or a hexagon of colour.
What is the hero detail of the Chapiteau ring? +
The hero detail is the perfectly balanced hexagonal structure surrounding the centre stone. The geometry feels strong and precise, yet the ring remains fluid and elegant because the shank transitions naturally into the setting. This balance between strength and grace defines the character of Chapiteau.
Why does the hexagon work so well in jewellery? +
The hexagon combines structure with beauty. It feels organised without becoming rigid, and geometric without feeling cold. In Chapiteau, the hexagon creates a strong visual framework that allows the diamonds or gemstones to create a striking display of light while maintaining a sense of harmony and balance.
How does the band flow into the setting? +
One of the subtleties of Chapiteau is the way the shank gradually transforms into the hexagonal setting. Rather than feeling like separate elements joined together, the ring develops naturally from band to setting. This gives the design a smooth, cohesive appearance that contributes to its elegance.
Why do the proportions of Chapiteau feel so balanced? +
The proportions were carefully developed so that the centre stone, surrounding stones and hexagonal framework all work together as a single composition. Nothing dominates. The eye moves naturally around the design, creating a ring that feels calm, confident and beautifully resolved.
Is Chapiteau difficult to make? +
Yes. Although the design appears simple, achieving clean geometry and balanced proportions requires great precision. Small inaccuracies become immediately visible in geometric designs, which means the craftsmanship and finishing need to be executed to a very high standard.
Was living in France an influence on the design? +
Yes. Chapiteau was developed during the period Andrew was living in France, a time that produced several important designs within the collection. The experience influenced both the name and the character of the ring, helping shape its blend of elegance, structure and individuality.
Who designed the Chapiteau ring? +
Andrew Geoghegan designed Chapiteau as part of his award-winning collection of British engagement rings. The ring reflects his fascination with geometry, proportion and the way simple forms can create extraordinary visual effects.

Ordering & Practical Details

Information about metals, diamonds, resizing, timings and viewing appointments.

What diamond sizes and shapes are available for Chapiteau? +
Chapiteau is available with a range of centre stone sizes and is typically built around a round brilliant diamond. Larger centre stones and bespoke variations may be possible on request, provided the proportions of the design remain balanced.
Can Chapiteau be made with coloured gemstones? +
Yes. Chapiteau works beautifully with coloured gemstones. Depending on the version selected, the surrounding stones can create a striking hexagon of colour around the centre stone while preserving the distinctive geometry of the design.
Which metals is Chapiteau available in? +
Chapiteau is available in platinum, 18ct yellow gold and 18ct rose gold. 18ct white gold is also available on request. Each metal changes the character of the ring slightly while preserving the strength of the hexagonal form.
Can I choose a lab-grown diamond for Chapiteau? +
Yes. Chapiteau can be made with either natural or lab-grown diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds share the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds and are graded according to the same standards. Please contact us for current lab-grown diamond pricing.
Does Chapiteau sit flush with a wedding ring? +
Yes. Chapiteau has been designed with a wedge-fit profile that allows wedding rings and eternity rings to sit neatly alongside it. This makes it easier to create a cohesive bridal set without requiring a shaped wedding ring.
Can Chapiteau be resized after purchase? +
Chapiteau can usually be resized if required. Accurate sizing before manufacture is always preferable, but resizing remains possible in most cases. Please get in touch if you would like assistance determining your finger size.
How long does Chapiteau take to make? +
Each Chapiteau ring is handmade to order in the UK and typically takes four to six weeks to complete. Timescales may vary slightly depending on gemstone availability and any modifications requested.
Can I view a Chapiteau ring in person? +
Please get in touch and we will do our best to arrange a viewing. We can also provide additional photographs, videos and CAD renders for clients selecting their ring remotely.
