Made at University in the 90s whilst I was studying design and jewellery, this ‘Architectural’ ring has a soft spot in my heart and on my finger!
For some reason, although I spend so much time designing and engaged with rings, I very rarely wear them! The few rings I have worn are: a roman ring found in France metal detecting and two rings that I made at University. One of the University rings is the ‘Architectural’ Ring pictured here.
I rediscovered this silver and cubic zirconia ring whilst I was searching deep in the back of the safe for pieces to be included in my sample sale in 2023. The strong significance of this ring means that I could never part with it although it was fantastic to find her again and share with you in this post.
She is not the most ergonomic of rings but this was not a prerequisite at University – it was all about the ‘concept‘ – and pages and pages of preliminary studies and drawings! My tutors at the University of Central Lancashire, namely Kieran Singh and Alan (Key) Philips (Screwdriver) as he was fondly known at the time, thought that I was showing signs of brilliance with this ring and this was definitely a key moment in my pursuit of becoming an award-winning jewellery designer.
On the rare occasion that I have worn this ring it attracted some interesting comments from my friends! They no doubt struggle seeing the genius in the early work of an artist – darling!
There are a few more AG Originals that I will introduce to you at some point – but maybe I will put them back in the safe for another 25 years.
